On-Snow Training Camp

Thanksgiving in West Yellowstone, MT

Advanced On-Snow Training Camp with Loppet Nordic Racing

November 21 – November 29, 2020

Join Loppet Nordic Racing for a challenging week of skiing in West Yellowstone, Montana. Please note that our final destination may change based on snow conditions. Other locations may include Houghton, MI, Thunder Bay Ontario, Canmore, Alberta, or Snow Mountain Ranch, Colorado.

We will focus on putting in high volume/low intensity week of training, and we’ll devote lots of attention to ski technique. Big improvements come with many hours on snow, technique video review, and with excellent coaching. We will do both classic and skate, and generally we will emphasize classic more because the trails and snow conditions lend themselves to very good classic skiing. You’ll learn a lot about how top xc skiers train, and about what a real training camp is all about. This camp is focused on the 14-19 year old age group. It is meant for athletes that have been training seriously for cross country skiing over the summer and fall.

Note that this is an ADVANCED camp: It’s for athletes who are highly motivated and have been training substantially for endurance sport. You should also have at least 2 years of ski racing experience.

Cost of LNR Junior Thanksgiving On Snow Camp coaching + lodging + food $1180. (After October 15: $1220)

Cost includes bus transport, room and board, coaching and trail pass. Athletes will pay for their own food while in transit. We will have room for approximately 45 athletes and 5 coaches on the bus.

Change of Location, Refunds and Cancellation:

We have run training camps in West Yellowstone for 20 years, and have never cancelled because of lack of snow. That said, you cannot predict the weather. It is possible that we will move the camp to another location based on snow and snow forecast. Other locations are likely to include Thunder Bay, Ontario, Snow Mnt Ranch, CO, Canmore, Alberta, Giant’s Ridge, MN. Athletes need to be prepared for change of venue based on weather. That means athletes need to have valid passports if we go to Canada. There will be NO refunds for athletes not wanting to go for attend because of change of venue. If you cannot attend because of significant/serious medical issue (eg broken arm) or family emergency that occurs within 4 weeks of departure, we will provide a 50% refund. If you notify us that you need to cancel more than 4 weeks before departure, we will provide full refund minus $30 process fee (also any CC fees are not refunded).

We will be training 2-3 times per day. A typical day will include a morning run 15-20 min and stretching, followed by breakfast and morning ski training (usually 1.5-2.5hr) and technique drills. Then we will have afternoon nap time, and then afternoon ski (usually 90 min). After dinner we will review video, have training discussions, and have a stretching session. Bottom line, athletes need be comfortable training 2.5-4.5 hrs per day (athletes ages 14-15 will be on the lower end of that range).

We will take a coach bus from Minneapolis to West Yellowstone. We leave Minneapolis early in the morning at 5:00am from the Lund’s and Byerlys in Richfield (6228 Penn Ave S, Richfield, MN 55423). For our return trip, we depart West Yellowstone at noon on November 28 and arrive home on Sunday, November 29 at approximately 7:00am.
