Loppet Foundation COVID-19 Update
November 20, 2020

In accordance with Governor Walz’s Executive Order, issued on Wednesday, November 18, and effective at midnight on Friday, November 20, the Loppet Foundation will be significantly changing our operations for the next four weeks. For your convenience, we have outlined below the specific Loppet areas which will be affected alongside each corresponding section of the Executive Order.

Trails & Trailhead

Fitness centers, recreation centers, indoor and outdoor exercise facilities, and exercise studios are closed to ingress, egress, use, and occupancy by members of the public. This includes shared or communal facilities serving more than a single household … Indoor dine-in service is prohibited at restaurants … All Locally, regionally, publicly, and privately managed public outdoor recreational facilities (outdoor parks, trails, ski areas, Nordic trails, and sledding hills) are to be open for all Minnesotans, including families and children … Equipment may be rented but only if the equipment can be effectively sanitized between uses. Such outlets must implement clear check-in and check-out procedures that minimize contact between customers and workers. Any rentals must be conducted in accordance with the Outdoor Recreation Guidelines.”

— Emergency Executive Order 20-99.

Mill Valley Market:

Mill Valley Market will be closed until further notice. We hope to have them back after the shutdown!

The Trailhead:

The Trailhead building is closed to the public. Please come to the trails prepared, as there will be no food, water, or warming areas available.

The opening of our ski rental shop will be postponed until we can find a safe way to operate some form of curbside pickup. More information will be available soon.

Trails:

All Loppet hiking, biking, and ski trails will continue to be maintained and will be open based on conditions. Please check the Maps & Trail Conditions webpage before arriving.

You must purchase a ski trail pass before using the ski trails. You can purchase your pass online and then pick up the pass at the ticket window at The Trailhead Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, during the hours listed on our Ski Pass webpage. In person sales will also be available during those dates and times.

Loppet Events

“Social gatherings are prohibited. Social gatherings are groups of individuals, who are not members of the same household, congregated together for a common or coordinated social, community, or leisure purpose — even if social distancing can be maintained. This prohibition includes indoor and outdoor gatherings, planned and spontaneous gatherings, and public and private gatherings … Outdoor recreational activities allowed by this Executive Order do not include performances, competitions, team events, tournaments, races, rallies, organized sports, organized group classes, spectator events, fairs, or any other events that involve the gathering of individuals from more than one household.”

— Emergency Executive Order 20-99.

Loppet Turkey Traverse 5K Run/Walk:

The 2020 Loppet Turkey Traverse (Nov 20-22) has been cancelled. Please read the full event update for more information.

Other Events:

As of right now, this Executive Order only lasts for four weeks and we have no other events planned within that time which will be affected. We will let you all know if this changes.

Loppet Sport/Adventures

“Organized Youth Sports organizations and programs must stop all in-person activities — including practices, group workouts, games, and tournaments. ‘Organized Youth Sports’ means any sports activity, where participants are children or adolescents, organized by an entity, association, club, or organization providing for registration of participants and oversight on a regular basis for a defined period of time … Organized Adult Sports organizations and programs must stop all in-person activities — including practices, group workouts, games, and tournaments. ‘Organized Adult Sports’ means any sports activity, where participants are adults, organized by an entity, association, club, or organization providing for registration of participants and oversight on a regular basis for a defined period of time … Social gatherings are prohibited. Social gatherings are groups of individuals, who are not members of the same household, congregated together for a common or coordinated social, community, or leisure purpose—even if social distancing can be maintained. This prohibition includes indoor and outdoor gatherings, planned and spontaneous gatherings, and public and private gatherings.”

— Emergency Executive Order 20-99.

This means we can not organize in-person workouts or training sessions, even in smaller groups, as you are not allowed to get together with people outside of your immediate household for training sessions. We had some great opportunities to train in groups this fall, and we ask everyone to complete their workouts alone these next 4 weeks.

Loppet Nordic Racing

Thursday, November 19, was the last day of in-person practice for the next four weeks for all LNR groups that have already begun their sessions. At the discretion of each coach, groups may continue to train virtually through Zoom meetings, emailed weekly training plans, etc.

LNR Adult groups who have not begun their sessions will delay their programs’ starts by four weeks, or until the Executive order expires. If needed, programs will run a few weeks longer than initially planned to provide individuals with a full training season. We will keep participants updated as we know more information.

TRAIL KIDS:

We plan to start our programs after the Executive Order expires and add a few weeks to the end of the program so youth in the 12-week and 6-week programs can participate in the full training season. Please read the updated TRAIL KIDS information document for more information.

Junior Loppet:

All Junior Loppet teams have suspended practices for the next four weeks, but will continue to engage with the athletes through virtual training activities and challenges. We encourage those who have received their rental equipment and ski passes to enjoy the snow on their own once it falls.
