Loppet Foundation COVID-19 Update
January 4, 2020
In accordance with Governor Walz’s current Executive Order, the Loppet Foundation will be following COVID-19 mitigation protocols. For your convenience, we have outlined below the specific Loppet areas which are affected.
Trails & Trailhead
Mill Valley Market:
Mill Valley Market is open daily from 9am – 6pm.
The Trailhead building is closed to the public. Please come to the trails prepared, as there will be no hydration stations or warming areas available. Port-a-potties are located outside The Trailhead.
Our rental shop is open Monday – Sunday, 9am – 5:30pm. The last rentals of the day will be given out at 4pm to ensure they can be returned by 5:30pm. Please visit the ticket window near the front door of The Trailhead and a customer service representative will assist you with rentals. You must wear a mask when picking up and returning equipment.
All Loppet hiking, biking, and ski trails will continue to be maintained and will be open based on conditions. Please check the Maps & Trail Conditions webpage before arriving.
We have compiled a list of when our programs will be using the trails. Our trails are open to all during the times listed, but please be aware that the trails will be busier during these higher use times.
You must purchase a ski trail pass before using the ski trails. You can purchase your pass online and then pick up the ski pass at the ticket window outside the front door of The Trailhead, Monday – Sunday from 9am – 5:30pm. In-person sales will also be available during those dates and times.
Loppet Ski School:
Our Private & Family Ski Lessons are available Sunday – Thursday from 10am – 3:30pm and Friday/Saturday from 10am – 7:30pm.
Group Lessons have resumed. Masks are required at all times, and physical distancing will be enforced. We are in the process of rescheduling Group Lessons, which were cancelled due to the Governor’s Executive Order in December. You should have received an email from Loppet Ski School Head Instructor Greg Klave about how to change your group lesson date.
Full COVID-19 mitigation protocols will be in place with seeded and distanced starts for the Pre-Loppet. Due to COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions, we are also offering a hybrid version of the Pre-Loppet. This means courses will be kept marked throughout the day on Sunday, Jan 17 (race day), and until Monday, Jan 18, at noon. Skiers and bikers will sign up for their own individual start times on a two-minute interval.
The City of Lakes Loppet Winter Festival will be stretched over the course of two weekends, as opposed to the three days it has been in the past. We will have in-person, hybrid (semi-virtual), and fully virtual event options this year. Our complete COVID-19 mitigation protocols and changes are updated on the festival’s webpage.
In-person practices have resumed in pods of 25 or fewer skiers. All skiers will be required to wear a face covering at all times when practicing, and will not be permitted to remove it/lower it on the trails. Like always, we ask everyone to please be respectful of others using the trails.
We hope to see you, from a socially appropriate distance, on the trails once again.
