Loppet Nordic Racing – 2019 Summer Training and Summer Camps

Skiers are made in the summer. Please see below for information and dates on LNR Devo and Comp team spring and summer training options along with camp dates.

Note: we will have 3 session/week and 7 session/week Summer Training options available this year for Comp Team, and 3 sessions/week and 6 session/week for Devo Team.

About LNR Development Team (Devo Team)

Focused on athletes born in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Some or many of the Development Team practices will be combined with Comp Team, but Devo Team has a dedicated coach/practice plan. Training for this group will be more varied than the Comp Team, and often less ski specific. Athletes born in 2006 may apply to train with the Devo Team – contact Coach Piotr Bednarski at bednarski@loppet.org.

About LNR Competition Team (Comp Team)

The LNR competition team – focused on 17-19 year olds (born in 2002, 2001, 2000), focused on year round training with the goal of competing regionally and nationally. This is an experienced ski group committed to year round training. During the summer, the Comp Team will meet 6-7 times per week. Athletes born in 2003 can petition to train with Competition team if they have exceptional results (eg. top 10 at JN’s). Competition Team weekly schedule for Spring and Summer will be very similar to what is was last year.

LNR Spring and Summer Training Principles

  1. To keep training varied, challenging, and having the opportunity to explore new places
  2. To make sure training in spring and summer is focused on making you a better all around athlete: coordination, speed, and running/movement mechanics
  3. To make sure that the environment at LNR is one that stresses being a good person, not just a good athlete. We will focus on working well as part of a group, and we’ll have a number of volunteer projects throughout the year. Note that volunteer projects (trail improvements, erosion control) will periodically happen during training time.

2019 LNR Training Camp Schedule (out of town)

Athletes must be enrolled in Summer LNR (Comp or Devo) in order to attend camps. We do make exceptions if there is capacity, if the athlete is sufficiently prepared, and if the athletes is planning on training with LNR in the fall/winter. Please contact Piotr at bednarski@loppet.org for Devo Team camp questions or Chris Harvey harvey@loppet.org for Comp Team camps.

Special note on camps for parents and athletes- it’s important to come to training camps well rested. Please try not to schedule other trips (eg Boundary Waters) to butt up directly before or immediately after a camp. Having a 2 or 3 day buffer on either side is a really good idea. Training camps are very tiring and athletes need to be healthy and ready for a heavy training volume. Going from an LNR camp directly to a week-long trip in the Rockies, for example, is also not recipe for success :).
