24 Hours of Wirth Race Recap

We’re still stoked about the first ever 24 Hours of Wirth event that took place last weekend. Going from sundown on Friday night and running through sundown Saturday evening, only the boldest of the northerners signed up to join us for either 24 or 12 hours of skiing or fat biking.

Three days of rain leading up to the event made for tricky grooming conditions but the temperatures dropped just in time to give us a firm, icy base through Friday night. Saturday morning we were greeted by sunshine and highs in the mid 30’s, slowing the course down quite a bit. Forty-five skiers competed either as individuals or as part of a relay team. Xavier Mansfield skied to the top of the individual podium in the 24-hour race with a total of 50 laps or 275K. William Kerns won the individual 24-hour bike race with 246.5K total.

The smell of bacon and pancakes wafted through The Trailhead as more joined us for the sunrise start of the 12-hour race where Naomi Ohman skied 29 laps, 159.5K to bring her to first place individual. A fun time was had by all!
