High School Summer Programs- Open!

The Nordic Ski Foundation and Go!Training are converging to offer summer training programs for young athletes.  Led by head coach Piotr Bednarski, these programs are designed for highschool age skiers interested in training in the off season. Take your fitness and skiing ability to the next level by roller skiing and running through the warm months. Expert coaching and programs are available for JV athletes to aspiring Junior Olympians. Realize your full potential and ski with the Minneapolis Loppet Juniors all summer long.

Spring Training: April 30- June 2 (5 weeks)
Jump start your summer season with some spring training!  This is an opportunity to get a taste of all the activities that make up the summer Loppet Juniors training program: roller ski, mountain bike, and tone those skiing muscles.  This is a great way to prepare the body for more in depth summer training. All levels welcome.  Come as often as you can.

  • Schedule:
    • Mondays: Strength, 3:30pm at Hopkins HS-Lindberg Center
    • Wednesdays: Trail Running and Plyos, 3:15pm Wirth Beach parking lot, plyos, followed by trail running
    • Thursdays: Roller skiing (First time roller skiers are welcome!)FrenchPark, 3:30-5:00pm, this is an opportunity for new roller skiers to learn the basics.  Experienced athletes will go for a workout.
    • Fridays: Mountain Biking (need your own bike), Elm Creek, 4:30-6:00pm.  Mountain biking, group ride

Summer Training:  June 11- August 10 (9 weeks, no training July 2-6th)
Skiers are built in the summer!  Take your skiing to the next level by participating in training program.  Expert coaches cover all aspects of ski training through both roller skiing and foot workouts.  Hone your ski specific muscles, learn proper training techniques and get to know others in the ski community. Programs are available for all levels or interest and ability.

  • Basic Program- The Basic Ski Program is designed for skiers interested in trying summer ski training for the first time or involved in other summer sports.  
  • Advanced Program– For athletes who want to make really big improvements and are seriously committed to ski training.  Program includes extensive training plans and blood lactate testing. 
  • Strength Session (additional)- one day of strength training can be added to either summer training program.  Meets Tuesday, 6:30pm, at Lindberg Center, Hopkins HS

Basic 1-   (Western Metro area)

  • Schedule: Meets 3 times/week
    • Monday: 7:00am-8:45am Peter Hobart Elementary, St Louis Park, Strength and distance
      rollerski.
    • Wednesday: 7:00am-8:45am, French Park/Elm Creek, rollerski and/or foot training.
    • Friday: 7:ooam-8:45am, French Park, rollerski intervals, agility, strength, bounding, running, games.

Basic 2- (Wabun Park/Minnehaha Falls, Minneapolis)

  • Schedule: Meets 3 times/week
    • Monday: 7:00am-8:45am Strength and distance
      rollerski.
    • Wednesday: 7:00am-8:45am, rollerski and/or foot training.
    • Friday: 7:00am-8:45am, agility, strength, bounding, running, games

Baker Park Program-

  • Schedule
    • Monday/Wed: 6:30pm Baker Park Medina.  Ski specific strength, technique and distance. 
      • Note- we strongly encourage skiers to do one more training session per week including the Tue evening Strength session

Advanced Program-

  • Schedule: meets six times/week
    • Monday: 7:00am-8:45am Peter Hobart Elementary, St Louis Park, Strength and distance
      rollerski.
    • Tuesday: 8:00am-9:30am, Wirth Beach, foot or bike
    • Tuesday: 6:30pm-8:00pm, Strength, Hopkins HS
    • Wednesday: 7:00am-8:45am, French Park/Elm Creek, technique/distance rollerski and/or foot training
    • Thursday: 7:30am, Intensity rollerski- French Park and Afton (2 sessions)
    • Fridays: 7:00am-8:45am, French Park, rollerski intervals, agility, strength, bounding, running, games.

*There will be some additional afternoon and weekend sessions in high volume weeks

Strength– using weights and circut training, pump up those ski muscles!  Tuesdays 6:30pm-8:30pm, Hopkins High School.  Strength can be added to any of the programs for $125.

Biathlon Training– Schedule to be announced

High Volume Training Camp– Aug 13-18

Trail running, rollerskiing, mountain biking, high volume training.  It will push your training limits to max while guarenteed to be a good time.  Coaching, food/ lodging, $380.  Athletes must be at a high level of fitness.  Location: TBA- Hayward, WI, North Shore are likely options.  Open to ages 15+.
