Loppet Skijor Introductory Session and On-Snow Clinic
There are two parts to this program – please register for both
Join Loppet Foundation resident Skijoring expert, Kevin Murphy, for an informative and inspiring presentation that will prepare you to be a great lead partner on your skijor team. In this FREE introduction to Skijoring session on Thurday, January 12 we will cover the history of skijoring, equipment needs, skiing ability and of course dogs. We will follow this introductory session with an on-snow session that will teach you the basics and help you to be able to train your dog. “We are not training dogs, we are training people to train dogs”, says Kevin.
Are you and your dog ready for this on-snow practical session? Quick self-test:
People need to know how to ski – you cannot be successful if you are starting from zero:
- Are you able to ski downhill with some confidence?
- Do you skate ski?
Dogs must have fundamentals of obedience training – skijoring is building.
- Does your dog obey basic commands?
If you answered no to any of the above questions the practical session is beyond your current skill level.
In the On-Snow Clinic we will cover:
- Getting your dog to pull
- Training for starting, stopping, turning, passing
- Skijoring in a group vs alone
- Pointers for hill climbing, going down hill and racing
Please register for one or both clinics. You may email questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.

With the grand finish in Loppet Village at Lake Calhoun Center, the Chuck & Don’s Skijoring Loppet is a fan-favorite.
