TFK-LF provides biking experiences for groups of up to 11 kids, aged 9 to 17
from the Minneapolis area.
How long is the ride?
Most rides last between one and two hours. Trips for Kids can take kids for rides
of any length depending on the kids’ schedule and bike experience. Groups biking
for the first time should plan for at least a 90 minute trip to allow for equipment
fitting and safety and basic bike skills instruction.
What should I bring?
Nothing but a willingness to learn and have fun. TFK-LF loans every kid a
size-appropriate bike and helmet and will supply energy bars and water. It is
recommended that kids wear sneakers, shorts and a comfortable t-shirt. Jeans and
baggy pants are not good for cycling.
Do I have to be an expert cyclist?
Riders should have basic bikes skills, but no off-road bike experience is
necessary. TFK-LF ride leaders will teach kids all the fundamentals of
mountain biking, including techniques for shifting and braking and how to
signal. Mountain bike adventures will start with easy trails and progress to more
challenging terrain as appropriate for each group’s skill level. Intermediate rides
will climb and descend hills, as well as ride over rocks and small logs.
TFK-LF is based in Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis. Theodore Wirth
