Clear skies and plenty of sunshine greeted cross-country skiers and fat tire bikers for the inaugural Fastenal Parallel 45 winter festival this weekend. Working around a fickle weekend forecast, event organizers were pleased to move all festival events, including the MyXC Festival & Championships and LoppetX presented by Go Radio, all back to Saturday. Racers young and old were able to enjoy their events under sunny skies with lots of energy and fun!
MyXC Festival & Championships
The morning kicked off with an Individual Classic, the Fish Scale Frenzy, and the Classic Tandem Sprint Relays. Nearly 150 young skiers ranging in age from six to sixteen completed the individual classic race, with a particularly impressive showing in the U14 crowd of nearly sixty kids. The popular Fish Scale Frenzy provided to be a blast for participants and spectators alike, with hundreds of kids participating. The morning events wrapped up with Classic Tandem Sprint Relays, with nearly a hundred youngsters competing in the event.
Afternoon events included the Freestyle Mass Start, SkiCross, and 4-Person Mixed Relays. Over 180 young skiers met at the start line to compete in the Individual Skate race. Following the skate race our youth skiers kicked off the first-ever LoppetX event, with nearly 200 skiers taking their chances on a new high-stakes sprint course. Big ups to all of the daredevil youth athletes who helped to test this course in preparation for our bigger and better Fastenal Parallel 45 in March of 2020!

The Parallel 45 Cup 10K Classic had a solid turnout of both younger and older adult skiers coming from as close as Minneapolis and as far as Pennsylvania. In the women’s category, Stephanie Bales, Ketzel Levens, and Kelsey Sather took places in the podium in first, second, and third respectively. Things heated up even as the weather cooled down with LoppetX presented by Go Radio. This event welcomed the best and baddest skiers and fat bikers around to compete in a sprint course unlike anything we’d done before — complete with twists, turns, jumps, drops, and more for an afternoon full of thrills. On the men’s side, Kasey Basco, Zach Goldberg, and Douglas Scott scored first, second, and third in this event. Following the skiers came the fat bikers, facing their own set of fun and exciting challenges on this course. On the women’s side, Sonia Pond, April Morgan, and Chelsea Strate took first, second, and third place for their impressive performances on the LoppetX fat bike course.
