For the Classic Team Sprints sign up with your partner, and get ready to race in ABAB fashion. The Skate Sprints are individual – which is just what it sounds.

On Thursday night, Open Category Classic Teams compete for an $800 purse. Their finishers are not counted toward any greater prize (e.g. the Minne Tour).

Friday night Skate Sprints are part of the grueling Loppet Minne Tour, through which dedicated skiers compete throughout the weekend for their take of the $6,000 purse. You can learn more about prizes on our awards page.

On Thursday the Youth Category Sprints are a part of the Skiwerx Series, while on Friday they are a part of the CXC Youth Cup Series.

Thursday Classic Team Sprint Race Instructions

Course Map »

  1. Youth and Juniors (U8 -U16) will be skiing the Red 750M Loop (“lesson” loop).
    We will NOT use the Green 400 meter loop.
  2. Adult skiers and all bikers will use the coaches corner loop (blue extension).
  3. Tags must be hand to body
  4. Each skier skis twice (same for bikes). Totaling four laps per team.
  5. Blue bibs go first (they have a 1 on them). Pink bibs go second (they have a 2 on them).
  6. Once bibs are picked up, you can switch with your partner if desired. We are not timing the event. We are only recording place.
  7. All wave starts will be finals (there is no advancing).
  8. Youth Events (U14 and younger) are restricted to non-fluorinated glide wax.

For the Team Sprints; juniors and adults must list a partner when registering. Youth (U14 and under) can sign up without a partner and coaches will match. Please list “Coach Choice” in the partner field to complete registration.

No new registrations will be allowed after close of online registration due to the amount of time it takes to develop competition brackets and schedules.

Registration and transaction fees are nonrefundable, including in the event of cancellation. Registration is not transferable to another person or another event for any reason, including injury. Competing under another person’s name will result in disqualification.

A Note About the Data We Collect


Race Categories

Junior: Open to all athletes born after Jan. 1, 1999 (see age categories below).

Open: Anyone can compete in the Open category. Any skiers competing in the Loppet Minne Tour must compete in the Sprints to be eligible to win cash prizes.

Masters: Open to all athletes age 40 and over (born before January 1, 1979).


Youth Race Series

Thursday’s youth classic team sprint is part of the Skiwerx Series. Friday’s youth freestyle sprints are part of the CXC Youth Cup series.

All CXC Youth Cup and Skiwerx Series events are restricted to non-fluorinated glide waxes.


Race Format

Depending upon the number of skiers in each category, the Sprints will feature quarter-, semi-finals and finals. The top two skiers in each heat advance. The top four male and female skiers from the heats advance to the finals.

U20 Born between January 1, 1999 and December 31, 2000
U18 Born in 2001 or 2002
U16 Born in 2003 or 2004
U14 Born in 2005 or 2006
U12 Born in 2007 or 2008
U10 Born in 2009 or 2010
U8 Born after December 31, 2010
