The following is a letter from Principal Scott Taylor:
“As we begin the 2016-2017 school year and reflect upon the academic growth, I reflect back upon those who assisted us in reaching our goals. Our academic growth was strong when looking at our data and we received numerous compliments regarding our student behavior.
This summer ten of our students participated in the Loppet Foundation Adventure Camp. Truly this is an amazing opportunity for my students. During our Open House a parent stopped to share about the experience her son had at the camp. I had heard from another parent earlier in the summer.
As a school with approximately 83% of our students qualifying for free/reduced lunches and over 90% students of color, you [the Foundation] are making a difference in the community. As an educator, I am committed to closing the achievement gap but I do not believe we will do so by focusing strictly on reading and math. Students need opportunities and The Loppet Foundation creates and offers opportunities for my students.
I appreciate the support you give to Park Book Elementary. Our success is greatly enhanced by your support.
