Inaugural Loppet Invite Held at Theodore Wirth Park

20150110_130337 20150110_130410The Loppet Foundation held its first-ever high school cross country ski race today with the inaugural Loppet Invite at Theodore Wirth Park. The race attracted 16 teams and approximately 250 skiers from across the Twin Cities metro area. The format of the race allowed for a full day of head-to-head racing. The Loppet Foundation is the nonprofit organization behind the City of Lakes Loppet Ski Festival, Jan. 30 – Feb. 1.

The top three boys were Patrick Acton, an Eagan High School sophomore (32:20); Sam Pahl, an Eden Prairie senior (33:05) and Foss Kerker, a Southwest sophomore (33:29). The top three girls were Erin Moening, Highland Park sophomore (36:59); Mikayla Batchlor, an Eden Prairie senior (37:49) and Ingrid Thyr, a high school senior who skis for Loppet Nordic Racing (38:21). The final times included combined classic and skate skiing results.

The top three boys’ teams were Southwest (383), Eden Prairie (370) and Eagan (315) while the top three girls’ teams were Armstrong (376), Eden Prairie (346) and Burnsville (333). Below are the top 10 boys and girls as well as the final team scores.

ABOUT THE LOPPET FOUNDATION:

Established in 2002 with an 800-person ski race, the Loppet Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that now welcomes 40,000 participants annually to its events and programs. The Loppet Foundation sparks a passion for year-round outdoor adventures, especially in underserved youth and their families. The organization focuses its efforts around Events; Adventures; Stewardship; and Loppet Nordic Racing, the 2014 national champion for men’s, women’s and overall club. Over the years the Loppet Foundation has taught more than 6,500 youth, including 5,500 from North Minneapolis, to ski, mountain bike, paddle, and generally appreciate the outdoors.
