Hoigaard's Challenge participants being recognized at the Annual Foundation Meeting.

What is the Challenge?

Those who dare to compete in each one of the three Loppet events find themselves competing with another goal in mind: the Hoigaard’s Challenge. The Challenge begins in the fall with the City of Lakes Loppet, continues with the Tri-Loppet and finishes in the fall with the Trail Loppet. Participants who compete in all three events receive commemorative pins, age class recognition and prizes, and are entered in a drawing to receive a one week stay at the Bearskin Lodge on the Gunflint Trail.

Guidelines:

Participants must compete in at least one event at the Loppet, Tri-Loppet and Trail Loppet in the same year.

  • City of Lakes Loppet – Compete in the Loppet Freestyle or the Hoigaard’s Classic. Typically the Classic and Freestyle times are similar (Freestyle skiing is typically faster, but the Classic race is a little shorter than the Freestyle). However, if the aggregate times are significantly different, the Nordic Ski Foundation may adjust one or the other for purposes of Series scoring so there is not an unfair advantage for doing one race or the other.]
  • Tri-Loppet – Compete in the Individual category.
  • Trail Loppet – Compete in the half marathon.

2011 Standings:

To determine placement in the Series, add your times from the Loppet, Tri-Loppet and Trail Loppet together.
*Classic skiers multiply their race time by 1.025 to get official time for the Challenge
