The Columbia Sportswear Skate Marathon is a five wave format, with up to 300 people per wave. There are five minute intervals between wave start times. The race starts with the Best of the Loppet Wave and then each succeeding wave follows, with roughly equal numbers of people in each wave. Skiers are placed into waves based on their times at the previous two years’ Loppet events or on this year’s Pre-Loppet. (See below). But beware the late registrant – if the wave you have qualified for is full, you will be placed in the next available wave.
Wave placement is based upon the past two years of Loppet results and/or the Pre-Loppet only. For details click here.
Note that because of the modifications in the classic race there was no enduro. In order to avoid giving an advantage to skate specialists the skate race will not have an enduro this year either.
The Columbia Sportswear Skate is a Hoigaard’s Challenge event. Do either the Columbia Sportswear Skate Marathon or the Hoigaard’s Classic Marathon, then complete the City Trails Loppet, the UCare Tri-Loppet, and Surly Trail Loppet in a single year and qualify for awards and recognition. The Loppet Foundation thanks Bearskin Lodge for its sponsorship of Hoigaard’s Challenge – winners of the Hoigaard’s Challenge Competitive category for men and women each win a week trip to Bearskin Lodge, and winners of the General category are entered into a drawing to win a week trip to Bearskin Lodge.
Ski the Columbia Sportswear Skate Marathon and the Mora Vasaloppet in the same year and receive the “Double-Loppet” award. This participation pin goes to all skiers who complete a 25 kilometer or longer event at both the City of Lakes Loppet and the Mora Vasaloppet in the same year.
Proceeds from the City of Lakes Loppet Festival events benefit the Loppet Foundation. Learn more about the Foundation's mission, vision, and values.
